What’s Good: From story, to acting, to screenplay, to direction; this one indeed is picture perfect!

What’s Bad: Even if there was something, it was quite easy to miss those glitches!

Loo break: That would be a terrible mistake!

Watch or Not?: Bhaag Milkha Bhaag is one of those rare films which are hard to forget long after you are done with them. This Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra biopic based on the magnetic life of athlete Milkha Singh, is all about pluses that champions the spirit of human living! Watch it for Farhan Akhtar who impeccably replicates the soul of Milkha Singh and leaves you with goosebumps!

User Rating:

The film is a story of Flying Sikh, Milkha Singh and his journey from his run for a glass of milk to becoming India’s pride on international athletic platforms. Tainted with battered past, bruised with horrific memories of Partition and later petty crime, his lady love helped him get focus in life. The evolution of an urchin boy to the man who won laurels for his nation will have you awestruck! Travel through the life of one of India’s most notable sports figures and get inspired to take the plunge for life’s run more seriously than ever.

Bhaag Milkha Bhaag Review: Script Analysis
The film is an intelligently disguised story of a man whom history cannot faze out easily. Milkha Singh’s life story has the right ingredients for a clever biopic which Prasoon Joshi and Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra have executed with delectable imagination. At no point does the film scatter in terms of story or intention, steering close to the relevant facts. Mehra rightfully reuses his Rang De Basanti style of narration which works to enhance the film’s tempo by absorbing your attention into it even more.

The story’s melodrama is restricted, keeping the dramatic bits plain. It is painful to see the Partition sequences of the story which have been carried out remarkably. In a particular sequence, where the young Milkha Singh slips on a puddle of blood after his entire ‘pind’ has been wiped off is the most fearsome portrayal of wretchedness! The story’s tainted scenes weave the haunting air fantastically and yet the cherishable moments maintain the story’s sheen. A couple of scenes are beyond the dimensions of cinematic marvel and ooze innocence wrapped in simplistic story telling!

From the glee of getting his first India blazer to when he loses the qualifying match in Melbourne to when he breaks down crying the pent up tears of years , the story’s terrain is smartly packed with judicious amounts of highs and lows, making the film’s recipe flawless.

Bhaag Milkha Bhaag Review: Star Performances
Farhan Akhtar has immersed in himself the soul of Milkha Singh. Giving the best work of his career, he is resplendent as Milkha Singh. He brings out Milkha’s vulnerability with charm and his passion with force. There is comfortable and effortless energy Farhan infuses in his role which makes me sure no one could have played it better than him. The actor will impress you with the work he has done in his physique. He has drawn a believable, grounded and exemplary picture of a man whose story people are less fluent with. With this unblemished portrayal, Farhan will astound you!

Sonam Kapoor has a lovely tinge in her little role in her limited screen time, she will flatter you enough that you actually feel bad that Milkha and Biro eventually part ways!

Divya Dutta plays Farhan’s older sister spotlessly well. A pillar of support and maternal love, she plays helplessness with command. A victim of domestic violence and marital rape, she paints the hues of her character commendably.

Pavan Malhotra shines through every scene with a first rate work and amazes you with his easy confidence.

Bhaag Milkha Bhaag Review: Direction, Music & Technical Aspects
After Delhi 6, Mehra faced a stark low and with Bhaag Milkha Bhaag he makes up as he has easily surpassed the high of Rang De Basanti too. His homage to the forgotten hero is an epic, with him caressing every detail with research and fondling every emotion through the film’s journey with tenderness. His storytelling still has the sparkling vision and his style has the ability to keep you latched to the screens.

The story’s strength is in its reality and Prasoon Joshi has ensured that the screenplay rightfully fits in every bit coherently. The editing is so lucid that the 3 hour plus runtime isn’t tedious at any point. Joshi-Mehra with their skilled craftsmanship has weaved a tapestry of sheer compelling genius out of the life of a celebrated yesteryear sports personality!

The background score by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy in wonderful and O Rangrezz croons with beauty!

Bhaag Milkha Bhaag Review: The Last Word
Bhaag Milkha Bhaag will have you captivated with its grit and enigma. Made with panache, it’s hard to take your eyes off Farhan Akhtar, who enriches Milkha Singh as a surreal charismatic figure beyond the realms of flesh and blood! I am going with a 4/5 and applause for the film’s team. This one is so moving and scintillating that such films are a reward to the audiences for bearing through the fiascoes!
Bhaag Milkha Bhaag released on 12th July, 2013.

Madras Cafe (2013) Official Theatrical Trailer HD

Here we present to you the most awaited OFFICIAL full trailer of the movie Madras Cafe starring John Abraham, Nargis Fakhri and Siddhartha Basu.
Directed By: Shoojit Sircar
Produced By: Viacom 18 Motion Pictures, JA Entertainment, Rising Sun Films
Music By: Shantanu Moitra
The trailer of Madras Cafe begins with a music that resounds with spookiness of tragedy. The calamitous air introduces this political thriller that from frame one is hard to not immerse yourself ill. Shoojit Sircar with Vicky Donor elaborated his prowess, and with Madras Cafe he is all set to experiment a paradigm shift. The film’s political thriller premise has lead actor John Abraham playing an undercover officer in Jaffna. Dealing with the volatile socio-political of Sri Lanka, the film must have required volumes of research in its conception as well as scripting stage!

Nargis Fakhri plays the international journalist with conviction! Blunt in her words and fearless in her manner, she exclaims in a scene that criticizing national policies doesn’t make her anti-national. To quote the gist of a popular Japanese classic Rashomon, truth isn’t singular but pluralistic with its zest differing as per perceptions and values.

Created on the background of Civil War with guerrilla forces descending, the pulsating factor here is engaging. With declaration of Code Red, the calamity factor multiples and the trailer could only make you want to watch the film even more.

Slated for a release on 23rd August, Madras Cafe will unravel the mysteries of a troubled story that remains marginalized, ostracized and untold!

Shah Rukh Khan Confirms Birth Of His Son AbRam

Bollywood Superstar Shah Rukh Khan has finally come out clean in all the controversies that had recently surrounded him. With the Bombay Municipal Corporation accusing King Khan of illegal prenatal sex determination, the actor has decided to clear the air of confusion and false reports that were going viral on the internet. Here’s a copy of the press release King Khan has released letting out details about his third child.
“Amidst all the noise that has been going around, the sweetest is the one made by our new-born baby, AbRam. He was born prematurely by several months but has finally come home. Gauri and our whole family have been dealing with his health issues for a long time now. As a family our silence on this subject has been because of the personal nature of emotional strife that we have been going through due to his health.
Shah Rukh Khan And Gauri Khan
We wish to make a special mention and thank Dr. Jatin Shah for his expertise and contribution. We also wish to thank all the other doctors, nurses and medical staff who have made his life possible.  As trying were the times, we never lost hope that life always brings with it. Just to put the record straight there was no sex determination for our child. The baby was born much before the speculations of ‘sex determination’ and other  ‘issues’ pertaining to the same were being raised in the media by some organisations. Suffice to say his coming home puts to rest completely false and at times insensitive claims of sex determination and alleged illegalities. We also apologise to all those other doctors and hospitals who had to face unwanted scrutiny and questioning by some parties. Our son is a surrogate baby and the entire process is bound by strict confidentiality. We would appeal to all, to allow us to cherish this private moment as a family. It seems unfortunate that I have to explain/clarify so many aspects for our new-born baby. Wish it were just a simple message of happiness on behalf of the family.
They say a baby is God’s opinion that the world should go on. Post this statement, I hope we all move on too.”

Suriya Starrer’s Success: A Preparing Stage For Ajay’s Singham 2′s Blaze?

Singham has been a rage ever since the Tamil version of the film released. Named Singam, the film starred Suriya and Anushka Shetty which escalated itself to great success in terms of box office collections. Making around 70 crores, with almost 6.5 crores from Chennai circuit only, it inspired director Rohit Shetty to make a Bollywood version of the film. The Hindi film starring Ajay Devgn in lead role went on to make 100 crores, thus joining the distinguished 100 crores club of the domestic box office.
Now as Tamil film Singam 2 is fast smashing records with an opening day collections of 8.15 crores from Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala circuits, its first three day collections reached a cumulative of 26 croresas per estimates. The film is an action thriller and it will be interesting to notes how close will Rohit Shetty go in replicate the look as well as box office success of Singham 2.
Rohit has been busy with Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone starrer Chennai Express and will soon after start work on Singham 2 that might go on floors by December this year. But in terms of story, a lot of changes will occur in Singham 2. The lead actor Bajirao Singham will continue from the first edition and undeniably Ajay Devgn will do a first rate job at it. The sequel needs to retain the magic of the original andSingam 2, the Tamil flick that will lay down the blueprint of Rohit Shetty’s much hyped sequel of Singham.
Ajay Devgan in Singham And Suriya Singam 2 Movie Poster
Ajay Devgan in Singham And Suriya Singam 2 Movie Poster
Box office wise Singam 2 is already gearing up to cross the box office records of Thuppakki which went on to make 100 crores and with Singam 2 performing phenomenally at the Overseas Market too, it won’t be impossible to achieve.
Rohit Shetty’s Singham 2 will hence have high benchmarks to achieve not only a competition from his own 2011 film Singham but also now a Tamil film which will be loaded in terms of sleek action. Ajay Devgn and Rohit Shetty’s pairing has always paid off the duo in abundance and with Singham 2 they will attempt to enhance the same.
The excitement levels are still modest since the film is yet to go on floors. A lot of things are waiting to be unraveled. From whether Ajay can make Singam style dance a rage given his limited expertise at dance or who will play the lead lady, the excitement levels for Singham 2 is already building each day as the success of the Tamil flick is soaring.
Given Rohit Shetty’s style of work, one can’t expect minimalism from him. Known to deliver magnanimity,Singam 2 is just a cue for how huge Singham 2 will be…with Rohit Shetty ishtyle!

Salman Ropes in Nadira Babbar For Mental

According to a leading daily, Salman Khan has furthered his good relations with Raj Babbar by roping in his wife Nadira in the role of his mother in Mental. Directed by his brother Sohail Khan, Mental expected to release on 26th January, 2014 is going to a Dabangg Khan’s next film after the release of Dabangg 2.
Salman Khan
Salman Khan
Nadira Babbar, a strong theater artist who is popular for her role in Gurinder Chadha’s  2004 film Bride and prejudice as Aishwarya’s mother will reportedly play the role of Salman’s screen mother in Mental. Reports also suggest that Nadira who has stayed away from the popular cinema is now enjoying the fun of mainstream Bollywood.
Raj Babbar and Salman share a warm relation so much so that when Shatrughan Sinha refused the role of Kareena’s father, Raj smoothly slid into the role. Now with his wife joining the Mental team, their good relations will easily be furthered.

Sixteen Movie Trailer + Analysis

There is nothing wrong Sixteen’s trailer except that it seems to very misplaced. Travelling with its four protagonist, the film’s premise in challenging and bold. The unrealism seeps in only a few steps into the trailer. I remember being 16 and it wasn’t very long ago. That is exactly what makes the entire tapestry of the film so dubious to me. I am not raising moral qualms here. Surely changing hormones are a phase when adolescent urges are uncanny and bizarre. But the aspirations of these four, from the trailer itself look slim. Obsessing about an older man and emphasizing that sexual libido of women is just as intense as a man’s is fine and bold, but at the tender age of 16 when you are barely out watching donald ducks and mickey mouses, such statements are slightly ahead of their ‘age’.
While all their issue are extremely valid and their issues sensitive, it is raw portrayal of something that intense is what I found ridiculous. The story forgets that it is intended at Indian market and most upper middle class Indian kids at the age of 16 focus on how to crack IIT or get through DU. With the levels of competition in the field of education, teenagers emphasize more of education here! Atleast in the real world.
Sixteen New Movie Poster
Sixteen New Movie Poster
Yes I don’t want to paint Indian teenagers at geeks, and hence love is crucial for them. But crush and first loves is what their issues are. Heartbreaks are juvenile and with age it becomes jokes we laugh at nostalgically. FYI Virginity has nothing to do with cool. I see this as an extremely shallow depiction of kids who lack the moral fiber to stand up for themselves and their convictions. Yes, issues are common to all especially parents forcing their dreams on kids but making such stereotypical references is what one should abstain from.
It is feeding cliches like these which breed mentalities. ‘S*x is Cool’ is an which won’t be relevant to anyone before college. There is nothing wrong with the plot, it is the age they have shown is hard to believe. Perhaps I am faulty and naive enough to assume that 16 is still the same. But of the people I know, who are 16 – their life still revolves around books, crushes, first love and delicate heartbreaks!
Having said all of this, I would want to watch the film. It is important to get an insight into the lives of teenagers today. There is a crusader tinge in me which screams that the depiction has age discrepancies. It would have been easier to believe 20 year olds saying the same! The raw and loud treatment lacks grace which might deter me, but I urge filmmakers to not make films that encourage stereotypical rashness of a generation which me actually be diametrically opposite from they have been shown as!
At 16, revel in your first love, cherish your first kiss, the satisfaction of getting your first bike, good results at Board exams, selecting your favorite college. At 16, don’t focus of s*x, sl*ts and older men. At 16, Act 16.

Grand Masti To Clash With Zanjeer

The sequel of the 2004 hit film MastiGrand Masti starring the same lead trio of the original Vivek Oberoi,Aftab Shivdasani and Riteish Deshmukh directed by Indra Kumar will release on September 6th. With that the film will now clash with Priyanka Chopra and Raj Charan Teja’s reboot version of 1973 classic film Zanjeer.
Grand Masti And Zanjeer Movie Stills
Grand Masti And Zanjeer Movie Stills
Being an adult comedy, Grand Masti‘s hilarity is a plus and Zanjeer being the interesting remake of Amitabh Bachchan’s film, the industry people will ensure for the audiences an interesting Friday that week!

Zanjeer - 2013 - Trailer + Analysis

Rumored to be one of Bollywood’s most elaborately budgeted films, the reboot version of Zanjeer landed in many controversies, the most primary one being that the film’s scriptwriters objected to the remake. Based on a story by Salim-Javed of a 1973 film, Zanjeer is iconic for multiple reasons.
With Zanjeer, Amitabh Bachchan fortified his hold in Bollywood. Preceeding him, Rajesh Khanna was the superstar who had his distinct era of films. With Zanjeer, Big B acquired his most popular image as Bollywood’s Angry Young Man!
The high budget reboot version of Zanjeer released its first trailer. Made on a grand scale, the trailer itself conveys that the film is more flashy and ornate compared to its last edition. Introducing Ram Charan Teja in the role of Vijay Khanna that Bachchan had immortalized, in the trailer at least he seems adequate. It is the thunderous voice of Vijay that you miss! Kickstarting the trailer with the raging issue of rising petrol prices, it is Sanjay Dutt who plays Pran’s role from the original film, who shines.
Priyanka Chopra seems wasted as appearing to be nothing more than an eye candy in the trailer! It is the other lady in the film, Mahie Gill who supersedes you expectations and gives a flattering impression! Prakash Raj as the villian is absolutely repetitive and for a second it seemed like Dabangg 2‘s trailer more thanZanjeer‘s.
Perhaps the best part was that of Atul Kulkarni’s. As the scheming media man, his verbal duel with Vijay is gripping.
Overall the trailer does manage to adequately interest me, but since remakes are something that in general disappoints me I will keep my expectations modest from this one. A great fan of the original film, the expectation pining on Zanjeer is very high. The trailer moderately does manage to do some justice to the original film in terms of hopes from it. It is still dubious till the release of the film to see how well the Zanjeerfares is terms of content and quality!

Policegiri Opening Day Box Office Collections

After having a slow start in the early morning shows, Policegiri showed a small spike in the late afternoon and night shows. The Sanjay Dutt starrer kicked off with about 2.50 Crores on its opening day. The collections were definitely not what the producers would have expected.

Policegiri fared better at the Single Screen Theaters than that of Multiplexes. Having said that the collections in Metro cities were way lower than the benchmarks.

Sanjay Dutt in Policegiri Movie Stills
Some of the circuits  like CP, CI, UP, Bihar and Rajasthan saw better collections of Policegiri than that of the other release this  week Lootera. However, the movie will have to do way better than its Day 1 Box office performance if it is to register some decent numbers in its 1st weekend at the domestic box office.

Rapid Fire With Ranveer Singh – Birthday Exclusive

Coming with a motive of making it big in Bollywood, this dashing dude has done it Band Baaja Baraat style and how! From the hot singleton status of desirability in India today, this naughty actor can bowl you over with his disarming candour. While Ladies V/s Ricky Bahl sloted him into a bracket of a typical commercial stunner, a period film like Lootera infused in a welcome change.

Ranveer Singh
On a voyeuristic trail on his career, injuries, link-ups, heart breaks and success story, Ranveer Singh spices it all up with a dash of lemon squeezed into the already delicious and entertaining transcript of sorts. Ranveer who has stunned us with a thrilling and a breath taking performance in Vikramaditya Motwane’s Lootera also spoke of the ghastly encounter with a casting agent that prepared him for the bad part of the stupendous success that Bollywood brought with it.

While Ranveer today has turned out to be one of the yummiest singletons, although rumours of his link ups with every other costar is just another love saga of its own, it was Amitabh Bachchan’s Jumma chumma which instilled the desire in him to be an actor, he recalled! “I always was such a nautanki. I always did drama and dance and stuff when I was young. My grandmother used to ask me to dance to Jumma Chumma and I used to dance on it even in parties. Then from there I just wanted to grow up and turn into an actor.” But did this outsider have an easy way out? “Well, not literally”, he disagrees. “Initially after my studies, I went to study abroad and I studied Acting abroad. But when I came back, all I did was just copywriting because I simply love writing. Writing is kind of my biggest hobby and I guess if I had not been an actor, I would have been a copywriter. But then during my struggling period, all I hoped was for a brilliant break and Yash Raj just parceled it to me. I could not have asked for anything more”

Talk to him and you know you cannot get away without a Rapid Fire. And voila, Ranveer Singh spilled secrets in his candid avatar during the Rapid Fire session as well.

Rapid Fire:

If you were on a lonely island with Anushka, you would: We would have killed each other then and there. Then toh sirf hum dono ki laash milti. (Laughs)
A tagline that best suits you: Ranveer Singh: dot, dot, dot!
A secret about Ranveer Singh that nobody knows: There are a lot of secrets which nobody except Ranveer singh knows! But yes, I have a fetish for shoes. (On pestering him a bit, he also added) I also have a fetish for arm flesh. The flesh on a woman’s upper arm.(laughs)
Your favourite cuisine: Desi Chinese!
Somethinh that you go bananas over: Radiant skin and good diction, in women
A body part that you think makes you look even sexier: My butt, I guess!!
Something that you want to change within yourself: My lack of control over my emotions. I don’t like it.
One role you wish you had played: One role that I definitely want to play would be of Tony Montana, which was originally played by Al Pacino in ‘Scarface’ (1983). And among the Bollywood ones, I wish I had done Shahid’s role in ‘Kaminey’.
Five words that best describes you: Stupid, bloody idiot, cool donkey!
One thing that sets Ranveer apart from the other actors: Well, I am just different.
A question that you to be asked by others: I would like people to ask me, “What is the secret of your energy?”
And the answer would be: A keera (worm)! Suleiman keera!
Today as this 6 feet tall man stands even taller, courtesy his stellar performances and powerful aplomb, Ranveer, the Lootera has robbed us all of our hearts and swept our floors away in a way that no one could. While the industry goes gaga about his latest stint creating immense impact, we at Koimoi wish this overtly friendly and grounded actor a very Happy Birthday.
